Potential Gravel Scam

Please be aware of this possible threat reported by Sue Whitfield:

“This morning a man (who seemed like a normal goods driver, in a uniform top) came to the door to offer me some gravel “not needed for a job and his boss has asked him to get rid of it. I said no thanks, and he was midway into trying to persuade me to take it when I got a bit firmer that I certainly did not want it, and he went away.

Since then I have had a call from a neighbour who he did the same thing to a few days ago, and returned this morning. She had let the police know after the first call, and told them again today. I am about to call them to report that he came to me this morning, as well.

I think this is a sort of scam where they may indeed sell some gravel (he was suggesting it was free but not saying so) but more likely casing the houses, who is in and who is not, whether people are unlocking the door to open it or not etc.

I think everyone should be alert, very firm, and take care that all doors and sheds and garages etc. are locked up whenever possible.”

  1. The gravel was on a small white Ford transit lorry ,the registration was SH11NWJ, spotted by Julian who luckily rescued me. (Cambridge reg’)
Driver was tall slim, dark hair .

  2. The driver was wearing a dark green jumper with a yellow STANLEY logo. He came to ours on Tuesday.
