Wotton Area Climate Change Network

Parish News – Quarter 1 2020

POSITIVE OPPORTUNITIES for 2020 and BEYOND…

Wondering what you can do and how you can help tackle climate change?

Local action is gearing up, and the new Wotton Area Climate Action Network (Wotton Area CAN), is working right across the local area – initiating and encouraging practical actions to reduce carbon emissions and engaging with local people to increase awareness of our changing climate.

The network is working towards making our local area carbon neutral by 2030, in support of Stroud District Council’s own Carbon Neutral 2030 Vision.

Meetings are monthly on the 4th Thursday from 8 – 9.30 pm in The Chipping Hall (Under the Edge Arts centre), Wotton-under-Edge, GL12 7AD.   We have a different and informative speaker each time on a wide range of subjects to do with climate change, e.g. carbon reduction, tree planting, community resilience, biodiversity, renewable energy, etc.  There are also opportunities to get involved in one of the Project Groups: on land use, home energy efficiency, transport, single use plastic and resources.

The Wotton Area is full of talented and energetic people and we are a strong community, just what is required for the challenges ahead.

Everyone is most welcome – just turn up or see what we are about.  If you have ideas to share, bring them with you.

Upcoming meetings:

23 January      Solar Streets project and tree planting update

27 February    Farming and climate change – 9 million hectares of hope

26 March          Building a Carbon Neutral Community – learning from Ashton Hayes

Tea and cake is part of everything we do!
