SUMMARY:Harvest Festival
DESCRIPTION:Tresham’s Harvest Festival Service -Sunday October 6th 2019\nDear Everyone\, \nHarvest Festival has a special significance if you live in an agricultural area\, and we certainly do. This year\, we have seen the harvest take place on Tom’s farm\, and as I write\, the Kingstons’ maize harvest will soon take place. It is the first time we have had maize growing here as far as I know – a sign of not only climate change but also the breeding of more resilient varieties since I was young when there was no maize grown in England. This is the high spot in the year’s rhythm of sowing and growing and reaping. \nWe shall celebrate in church at 11 am\, with garden and farm produce as usual. Although this is a service\, it is also an opportunity for all residents to join in gratitude for the food we eat\, and for the work of farmers and horticulturists everywhere. We do hope that as many people as possible will be there\, whatever their views on church services\, as our community’s opportunity to celebrate together the light and warmth and rain and sheer hard work which makes us all able to be well fed all the year round. There is a social and community side to enjoy in the life of a church\, and everyone is extremely welcome to come\, and to enjoy the chat among the flapjacks afterwards. \nIf you would like to donate non-perishable food\, it will be taken to the food bank. There will also be a separate collection for those who would like to provide money for the food bank so items which are needed but not normally donated can be purchased. \nWe hope to see you there. With very best wishes\, \nSue \nSue Whitfield – church warden – tel 890338

SUMMARY:Summer Social
DESCRIPTION:It has been a very unusual and in some cases a tough few months for us in Tresham.  However\, we have rallied round as a community and helped each other where possible. \nI would like to propose a little light relief and that we plan to have an informal village gathering on Saturday 1st August.  Weather permitting\, let’s meet at Well Hill with camping chairs\, a few bottles of beer and wine\, together with a BBQ or two.  Of course it might not just be the weather that prevents this\, there may be the existing or new government restrictions in place.  Social distancing may still have to be respected and there may be villagers who would prefer to continue laying low until a better time.  We can use the interim period to assess the possibilities and decide on the format.  Either way\, it would be good to put a date in the diary and have something to look forward to.  How about gathering at 5pm and light BBQs at 6pm? \nPlease post any ideas\, thoughts or comments…….. \nSimon Lee \nPS photo from June 2006

SUMMARY:Harvest Festival 2020
DESCRIPTION:Tresham Harvest thanksgiving service\nWe are restarting our monthly services on Sunday September 6th after what is probably the longest break since the current church was built in the 1850s. We are combining our harvest thanksgiving with a village picnic in the churchyard\, in order to be able to welcome as many people as possible who might wish to come. Harvest is something we are fortunate in being able to take for granted but having the good fortune to live in such an agricultural community\, it is something which in Tresham we know well is the result of a lot of hard work as well as the wonders of life and growth\, so we remember we should not really take it for granted. Holding it outside makes it weather-dependent\, so if it rains we’ll delay it by a week. \nSince we may not be able to hold the carol service in its usual wonderful form at Christmas\, this may be the last time the village can come together like this in 2020. Everyone is warmly invited to join us for both the service and the picnic\, or just one or other of them. \nIn order to comply with government covid-19 regulations\, there will be the necessary social distancing. Unfortunately at present congregations are still not able to sing – even outside – but at least we shall not have to wear masks\, and we can enjoy our lovely setting during the event. \nThe Rev. Peter Marsh has kindly agreed to take the service. Arrival time is from about 11 am\, warmly dressed\, with an official start at 11.15 (to allow him time to be here after the North Nibley service). It will be a harvest-themed non-communion service\, and David has kindly offered to play his keyboard from the porch; Peter may bring his guitar. Picnics will start immediately afterwards and everyone is invited to the service and/or the picnic\, which will probably start at about 11.45-12. Please bring your own with a rug or chairs\, although there will be some chairs there for those who cannot bring them. I’m sorry we cannot offer refreshments to others\, for covid reasons. \nAs usual\, we ask that if you would like to\, you bring some suitable donations for the food bank\, and for those who prefer it there will also be the opportunity to donate cash for items needed which are not normally donated. Janet tells me that there is no particular shortage of actual food in store at the moment apart from tinned and instant mashed potatoes\, but toiletries (eg toothpaste\, toothbrushes\, deodorant\, shaving gel\, soap) and cleaning products are especially welcome. They have more pasta than needed at the moment. There will be a separate opportunity to contribute to our church collection too. \nWe hope to see you there! If you have any queries\, please give me a ring (338). \nBest wishes\, Sue

SUMMARY:Beat the Bounds Walk and Tea
DESCRIPTION:Rosie Birch (Margaret Gardner’s granddaughter) has offered to set up her Travelling Tea Room at Tresham Church on Saturday\, 20 July\, providing tea and cake at no cost (just donations to Tresham Church if desired).  We thought we could tie it in with an idea\, adopted by other villages\, to ‘beat the bounds’\, in other words to walk the boundary of the village\, approximately 7-8 miles\, shown below. \nThe walk will start at the top of Well Hill common and finish at Tresham Church where the Travelling Tea Room will be located.  Tresham musicians will also provide entertainment. \nWe would like to attract not just villagers but others who visit Tresham such as walkers and cyclists. \nThe Full Walk follows the boundary as near as we can manage and will be marked with blue ribbons.  There are then shorter versions to cater for as many people as possible – the shortcuts back to Tresham will be signed.  Full details below. \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n Actual ‘Boundary’\n \n \n \n \n \n Route 4\, Full walk 4hrs\n \n \n \n \n \n Route 1\, 1 hr walk\n \n \n \n \n \n Route 2\, 2 hrs walk\n \n \n \n \n \n Route 3\, 3 hrs walk\n \n \n \n\nPlease note we have obtained permission from the landowners involved where the route does not use public rights of way.  Dogs must be kept on the lead and ‘poop scooped’! \nIf you are coming by car we have limited parking at the top of Well Hill.  Please park at a right angle to the highway. \nThe Full Walk will start from the bench at the top of Well Hill at 10:30 aiming to be back at the church at around 14:30.  The Travelling Tea Room will open at the church at 14:00 so those doing the shorter walk(s) may wish to set off later in order to arrive in time for tea!  The walks have differing degrees of difficulty: \nRoute 1 – Easy – 2.6 miles\nRoute 2 – Easy – 3.8 miles\nRoute 3 – Moderate – 5.0 miles\nRoute 4 – Difficult with some steep grassy slopes\, walking stick/pole recommended – 7.4 miles \nHope to see you on the 20th!  Any queries just post a Comment below.
